A shaggy lion in a jewelled gold crown perches on a see-through plinth, looking thoroughly unimpressed with the whole business of being king. There will only ever be 50 canvases in the smaller size and 25 in the larger, every one with its own edition number.

About This Artwork
The lion sits with front paws neatly together and tail trailing over the edge of a round, glassy pedestal, its mane a great tangle of golden brown and dusky purple. Heavy eyelids, a small pink nose and a white chin give it the air of someone who was promised a throne and got a transparent stool instead. The crown, gold with red and blue-green stones and little bobbles on every point, sits slightly back on its head, as if it might slide off at any moment and the lion would barely notice.
Around it, a hot pink background reads like a page from a very opinionated dictionary. In the top left corner: "LION: KING OF THE JUNGLE" and "KING IT: BEHAVE IN AN IMPERIOUS OR PRETENTIOUS MANNER, TO PLAY THE KING". On the right, "THE KING: NOUN" is defined as "A CHIEF RULER; A SOVEREIGN; ONE INVESTED WITH SUPREME AUTHORITY BY HEREDITARY SUCCESSION; A MONARCH". Bright green grass sprouts along the bottom edge, though there is not a jungle in sight. The lion seems to have read every definition and decided that sitting still counts as ruling.
The King holds court in Big, Bold & Bonkers. Big art, bad behaviour and absolutely no apologies: a collection of gloriously ridiculous characters with questionable morals, oversized personalities and a rather impressive opinion of themselves. Expect bold colours, dark humour and a healthy disregard for good taste, available exclusively as oversized limited edition canvas prints, because some nonsense deserves to be taken very seriously.
The King is available in two sizes, each produced in a strictly limited edition:
- 100 × 100 cm / 40 × 40 in - Worldwide edition of 50
- 135 × 135 cm / 53 × 53 in - Worldwide edition of just 25
Each print is assigned an individual edition number and accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity from the artist.
Edition numbers are recorded by Tim Hupkes. Once an edition is sold out, it will never be reproduced in that size.
Framing
The King is available in multiple framing options. Choose your preferred finish from the options above.
Please note that the limited edition applies to the artwork and size worldwide, regardless of the country it ships to or the chosen frame. For example, only 25 prints will ever be produced at 135 × 135 cm, across all countries and framing options combined.
Certificate of Authenticity
Every The King limited edition print is assigned its own edition number and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity from Tim Hupkes.
As the artwork is produced and shipped directly by the professional print partner, the edition number is documented on the Certificate of Authenticity rather than written on the canvas itself. The certificate is sent separately by the artist.
Choosing the Right Size
Not sure which size will work best in your space? As a general rule, larger art creates more impact, while smaller sizes work beautifully in more intimate spaces or as part of a gallery wall.
A simple trick is to mark the dimensions on your wall with painter’s tape. It gives you a much better sense of scale before you choose.

Canvas prints are museum-quality giclée prints on archival poly-cotton canvas with a matte-satin finish, stretched over a solid wooden frame and ready to hang.
Fine art paper prints are giclée printed on heavyweight, softly textured archival paper. Framed prints come with handcrafted wooden frames and protective glazing.
Original artworks are created by Tim using artist-quality papers, canvas, coloured pencil, ink, watercolour or acrylic, depending on the piece.

Shipping, Delivery & Returns
Prints are made to order by my professional print partner, usually within 1–2 business days (up to 4–5 during busy periods), and are produced close to their destination whenever possible.
Original artworks are carefully packed by me and dispatched from the Netherlands within 3 business days. Delivery times depend on your location, and tracking is provided when available.
Canvas and paper prints can be returned within 30 days of delivery.
Original work can be returned within 14 days of delivery.
Please always contact me before returning anything so I can provide the correct return address and instructions. Returns sent without contacting me first may not reach the correct location and may therefore not be eligible for a refund.
