Find Art by Colour
Colour is the first thing you see on a wall, long before you work out what a painting is of. It is also the easiest way into this collection: start with the colour your room already has, or the colour it is missing.
Tim paints in layers, scraping back as often as adding, so a single work usually carries two or three colours at once. That means the same painting can turn up in more than one colour below — it genuinely belongs in both.
Which colour works where
Yellow carries a room on its own and does not need to be large. It holds up in north-facing rooms where cooler colours go flat, and sits well against white, warm grey or deep green.
Blue takes size better than any other colour here. The eye reads depth rather than volume, so a large blue canvas above a sofa or bed settles a room instead of dominating it.
Orange is for rooms you want awake: hallways, kitchens, studies. Strong enough to carry a white wall by itself, warm enough to sit beside wood and terracotta. Give it space.
Purple asks for a calm wall and evening light. Against white it reads violet, against grey it turns towards lilac. Medium sizes suit it better than the very largest.
Colour is one way in; size is another. If you already know how much wall you have to fill, start from the large formats or from the square work, which is most of what Tim paints.
