Abstract painting in yellow as a field of movement
In ‘Yellow I’, the painting unfolds as a surface where colour never settles, but moves across the canvas in a continuous play of appearing and disappearing. Yellow dominates, but never as a single mass. It opens up, condenses, recedes, and returns each time in a different form. The composition seems to form in the moment. Lines do not become boundaries, but directions. Planes remain porous, allowing underlying layers to come through and revealing what came before.
A surface that continues to speak
Up close, the structure becomes visible: layers built up over one another, partly revealed or absorbed back into the whole. Each gesture remains present, without fixing the image in place. From a distance, a different rhythm emerges. What first appears fragmented begins to move together, forming an image that does not reveal itself immediately, but unfolds gradually.
Presence in space and light
‘Yellow I’ shifts with its surroundings. Light brings certain tones forward while others recede. The work changes throughout the day without losing its character. Within a space, it does not function as background, but as an independent element that introduces its own dynamic.
About the work
With ‘Yellow I’, a painting emerges in which colour does not settle, but continues to shift. The work stands on its own, carrying the traces of its making visibly within it.
